TORCH PROFILE IgM
A TORCH Profile IgM test detects current or recent infections by searching for specific IgM antibodies in the blood, which are produced by the immune system in response to a new threat. The term TORCH is an acronym for infections that can harm a fetus during pregnancy and includes Toxoplasmosis, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus (HSV), and sometimes syphilis or varicella-zoster virus (chickenpox). Detecting these antibodies early allows healthcare providers to take action to prevent potential complications for both the mother and the baby.
