ANA By IFA
An ANA by IFA test (Antinuclear Antibody Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay) is a blood test to detect antinuclear antibodies (ANAs), which are autoantibodies that mistakenly attack the body's own cell nuclei. This test helps diagnose autoimmune diseases like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Scleroderma by indicating if the immune system is causing damage to healthy tissues. The IFA method uses HEp-2 cells as the substrate to visually identify and measure the level (titer) and pattern of these antibodies in a sample.
