Anti Mitochondrial Antibody (AMA)
Anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMAs) are autoantibodies produced by the immune system that target the mitochondria, the energy-producing organelles within cells. AMAs are primarily used to diagnose Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), a liver disease. The AMA test measures these antibodies in the blood and can also help identify other autoimmune conditions like Sjögren's syndrome and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and various liver diseases.
