Bilirubin, (Total,Direct,Indirect)
Bilirubin total, direct, and indirect are three measurements from a blood test that help evaluate liver function and diagnose conditions like jaundice and liver disease. Total bilirubin is the overall amount of bilirubin, a pigment from red blood cell breakdown. Direct (conjugated) bilirubin is processed by the liver, while indirect (unconjugated) bilirubin is the form before it reaches the liver. An imbalance in these levels can signal liver disease, bile duct issues, or excessive red blood cell breakdown.
