Creatine Kinase (CPK)
Creatine Kinase (CK), also known as Creatine Phosphokinase (CPK), is an enzyme crucial for energy production, especially in the heart, brain, and skeletal muscles. A CK/CPK blood test measures the level of this enzyme in the blood to diagnose conditions involving muscle, heart, or brain damage, such as muscular dystrophy, heart attack, and stroke, or conditions like rhabdomyolysis. Levels can be elevated due to physical trauma, strenuous exercise, certain medications, or health issues like hypothyroidism.
