A uric acid serum test measures the amount of uric acid in your blood, a waste product from the breakdown of purines in the body. This test helps diagnose conditions like gout (where crystals form in joints) and kidney stones (which can form in the kidneys). High levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia) can indicate problems with purine intake, overproduction of uric acid, or poor kidney function.
