Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
A Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) test measures the amount of urea, a waste product from protein breakdown, in your blood to assess kidney function and liver health, detect dehydration, and monitor chronic conditions. The liver produces urea from protein digestion, which is then filtered by the kidneys and excreted in urine. High BUN levels can signal kidney dysfunction or dehydration, while low levels might indicate liver problems or malnutrition.
