Proteins Total, Serum
A total serum protein test measures the sum of albumin and globulins in the blood, with normal levels typically between 6.0 and 8.3 grams per deciliter (g/dL). This test helps assess liver and kidney function, nutritional status, and can indicate inflammation or certain cancers like multiple myeloma. Abnormal results may lead to follow-up tests or point to underlying conditions such as dehydration, liver disease, kidney disease, malnutrition, or chronic inflammation.
