Glomerular Basement Membrane (GBM) Antibody1

A Glomerular Basement Membrane (GBM) antibody test detects autoantibodies targeting the body's own basement membranes in the kidneys and lungs, causing anti-GBM disease, also known as Goodpasture's syndrome. This rare autoimmune condition leads to damage of kidney and lung capillaries, potentially resulting in rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and pulmonary hemorrhage. The test is indicated by symptoms like blood in urine, coughing up blood, or unexplained kidney/lung problems.
