Lupus Anticoagulants (LAC)
Lupus anticoagulant (LAC) is a type of antiphospholipid antibody that interferes with the body's normal blood clotting process, paradoxically increasing the risk of developing blood clots rather than causing bleeding. While its name is a misnomer as it is not directly related to the autoimmune disease lupus, LAC is a significant indicator for conditions like <antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), recurrent miscarriages, thrombosis (blood clots), and other complications. A Lupus Anticoagulant Profile is a laboratory test used to detect the presence and level of these antibodies in the blood, helping to identify individuals at risk for these adverse events.
