Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO, Anti Microsomal Antibody)

Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme in the thyroid gland, and anti-TPO antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system that mistakenly attack it. High levels of these antibodies, detected through a blood test, often indicate an autoimmune thyroid disorder like Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease, which can disrupt thyroid hormone production and lead to symptoms of thyroid dysfunction.
