Anti- Smit Antibody
An anti-Smith (Sm) antibody test detects antibodies that target the Sm antigen, a component of the nucleus. A positive result is a highly specific, though not a definitive, indicator for the diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks healthy tissues. While they are present in only about 5-30% of SLE patients, their presence strongly supports a diagnosis of SLE, even if clinical symptoms are unclear.
