Porphobilinogen (PBG), Quantitative
A quantitative Porphobilinogen (PBG) test measures the amount of PBG in a urine sample, which is a crucial step in diagnosing acute porphyria, like acute intermittent porphyria (AIP). Porphobilinogen is involved in the production of heme, a component of hemoglobin that carries oxygen. High PBG levels can be caused by porphyria, liver disease, or lead poisoning.
