Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH)
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme found in almost all body cells that helps convert glucose into energy. When cells are damaged or die from injury, disease, or inflammation, they release intracellular LDH into the bloodstream. An LDH test measures these enzyme levels to help diagnose and monitor conditions causing tissue damage, such as liver, heart, or muscle disease, some cancers, and infections.
