Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a blood test that measures the level of a specific enzyme found in many body tissues, including the liver, bones, kidneys, and intestines. High or low ALP levels can signal problems with these organs or other conditions, such as liver disease, bone disorders, or certain deficiencies. An ALP test is often part of a routine blood panel to screen for or monitor these conditions, but other tests are usually needed to determine the exact cause of any abnormalities.
