ANA (Anti Nuclear Antibody)
An ANA is an antinuclear antibody, a protein produced by the immune system that mistakenly attacks the nucleus of the body's own cells. An ANA test measures these antibodies in the blood to help diagnose autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. While a small number of ANAs are normal, a high level can indicate an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks healthy cells and tissues.
