Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) IgG Antibody by ELISA
An HCV IgG antibody ELISA test detects proteins (antibodies) the body produces in response to a Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection using a laboratory technique called ELISA. This is often the first test for Hepatitis C, providing a positive or negative result indicating the presence of antibodies, but further testing, like HCV RNA testing, may be needed for a definitive diagnosis. A negative result means no antibodies are currently detectable, but a negative test doesn't rule out infection if symptoms persist, as antibodies may not be present in the very early stages.
