Fructosamine
Fructosamine is a stable, non-enzymatic product of the reaction between glucose and proteins (primarily albumin) in the blood, serving as a marker for short-term blood sugar control over the preceding 2-3 weeks. A fructosamine serum test measures this compound and is particularly useful for monitoring people with diabetes who have conditions like pregnancy or anemia that can make the Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test unreliable. Elevated levels indicate hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), suggesting poor glycemic control.
